To avoid a replacement or lost fee, please return library materials due October 1st or later within 28 days. Replacement fees are intended to encourage Members to return items on a timely basis so everyone in the community can enjoy them.
From Thursday, September 11, until 5 am on Monday, September 15, road closures for SuperCrawl will be in effect in and around James Street North from King to Wilson/York to Cannon to Barton Street. Additional closures will take place on King William, Rebecca, Vine, Mulberry, Colbourne and Murray Streets. Central Library's Fourth Floor is closed on Tuesday, September 16, from Noon to 6 pm due to a special event. Makerspace and Newcomer Learning Centre will remain open. Floors 1-3 are available as study and work spaces. www.hpl.ca/central
Huntington Park is discontinued effective after tomorrow, Friday, September 5 (11 am-noon). A new, nearby bi-weekly Bookmobile site at The Court at Rushdale (1360 Upper Sherman Ave) will start on Friday, September 19 (11 am-noon).
Queen Victoria Elementary School will now visit from 3-4 pm (instead of 3:30-4:30 pm
Study Halls at Central Library and Dundas, Red Hill, Terryberry, Turner Park, Valley Park, and Waterdown branches resume on Tuesday, September 2. They will be open after-hours Mondays-Thursdays from 8 pm to Midnight. www.hpl.ca/study-halls
Due to roof repair maintenance, the Branch is temporarily closed from September 2 until October 10. Please visit the Red Hill, Parkdale, and Barton locations as your nearest branches for your library needs. On August 28-29, there may be some noise disruptions and limited parking spots while the roof repair set-up begins. Thank you for your patience.
After Hours Study Halls
Study Halls resume on Tuesday, September 2. We look forward to seeing you again.
Study Hall hours are quiet spaces for Members to work or study.
Central Library and the Dundas, Red Hill, Terryberry, Turner Park, Valley Park and Waterdown branches are currently open after-hours Mondays-Thursdays, 8pm-Midnight.
Who can participate?
Members with a valid Hamilton Public Library card (physical or eCard). Your Hamilton Public Library card must be shown to security upon entry.
Parents, Guardians and/or caregivers must be present with children 14 years of age and younger during Study Halls.
If you don’t have a Hamilton Public Library card, register online or visit any HPL branch and complete an application form.
Can I leave and re-enter the library after regular closing hours?
Yes. You can enter, exit and re-enter any time. You must show your Hamilton Public Library card (physical or eCard) card to security each time you re-enter.
Entry Points:
Central Library: Enter and exit at the York Blvd., door entrance.
Dundas Branch: Enter and exit at the side door.
Red Hill Branch: Enter and exit at the front door.
Terryberry Branch: Use the rear parking lot door and take the elevator to the 2nd Floor.
Turner Park Branch: Use the rear parking lot door of the shared YMCA building.
Valley Park Branch: Use the library entrance off of Paramount Drive.
Waterdown Branch: Enter and exit through the back door.
Can I use the library computers and printers after regular closing hours?
Yes, computers and printers are available during Study Halls.
Can I order food to be delivered to the library?
No. Light snacks and beverages (i.e., coffee, tea, juice bottles, reusable water bottles) are permitted but you must bring them with you when you arrive. No hot meals are permitted.
What is acceptable conduct during the Study Hall hours?
You must always abide by HPL’s Member and Service Commitment and behave in a way that promotes a quiet, respectful study environment. HPL reserves the right to take steps to ensure a quiet study environment and the safety of Staff and Members.
Can I borrow or return library materials during Study Hall hours?
Access is limited to certain areas of the branch, including collections. You may return library materials to the external dropboxes.
