To avoid a replacement or lost fee, please return library materials due October 1st or later within 28 days. Replacement fees are intended to encourage Members to return items on a timely basis so everyone in the community can enjoy them.
From Thursday, September 11, until 5 am on Monday, September 15, road closures for SuperCrawl will be in effect in and around James Street North from King to Wilson/York to Cannon to Barton Street. Additional closures will take place on King William, Rebecca, Vine, Mulberry, Colbourne and Murray Streets. If you are planning to visit Central Library over the next few days, we suggest taking HSR for a convenient route to downtown Hamilton. www.hpl.ca/central
Central Library's Fourth Floor is closed on Tuesday, September 16, from Noon to 6 pm due to a special event. Makerspace and Newcomer Learning Centre will remain open. Floors 1-3 are available as study and work spaces. www.hpl.ca/central
Huntington Park is discontinued effective after tomorrow, Friday, September 5 (11 am-noon). A new, nearby bi-weekly Bookmobile site at The Court at Rushdale (1360 Upper Sherman Ave) will start on Friday, September 19 (11 am-noon).
Queen Victoria Elementary School will now visit from 3-4 pm (instead of 3:30-4:30 pm
Study Halls at Central Library and Dundas, Red Hill, Terryberry, Turner Park, Valley Park, and Waterdown branches resume on Tuesday, September 2. They will be open after-hours Mondays-Thursdays from 8 pm to Midnight. www.hpl.ca/study-halls
Due to roof repair maintenance, the Branch is temporarily closed from September 2 until October 10. Please visit the Red Hill, Parkdale, and Barton locations as your nearest branches for your library needs. Hamilton Public Library offers a variety of free spaces for community use. Whether you're studying, working on a group project, hosting a quiet meeting or practicing piano, we have a space for you.

Rooms are free to use, available in two-hour blocks on a first-come, first-served basis. Rooms cannot be booked within 15 minutes of closing.

A valid HPL library card is required for online bookings.

Bookings can be made up to two weeks in advance, in two-hour time slots.

Valid ID is accepted for in-person reservations.
Booking Guidelines

One booking per person or group per day (one library card per group).

Reservations are held for 10 minutes after the start time.

Check in at the desk with your library card or photo ID—staff will unlock the room.

You may stay longer if no one else has booked the room afterward.

Rooms cannot be booked within 15 minutes of closing.
Piano Practice Room – Central Library
Central Library’s 2nd Floor Piano Room offers a quiet space for practice.
One-hour sessions are available during open hours, except for the last booking of the day, which is 45 minutes. To make a reservation up to two weeks in advance, please call, email or chat with Staff.
Meeting Room Rentals – Currently Unavailable
Meeting room rentals are currently on pause as HPL prioritizes library spaces for free programming and community use.
When rentals resume, priority will be given to library programming and City and community partners with civic, educational and cultural goals. For future reference, please review HPL’s Working with Us Policy to learn about room booking guidelines, fees and library partnerships.
