All public washrooms at Barton Branch are not working. We aim to get it fixed quickly.
From March 23 until April 12, Valley Park Community Centre will be closed for renovations, reopening April 13. Pool and changerooms will remain closed until early summer 2026.
Valley Park Branch will remain open during the renovations for your library needs.
Filming will take place Mar 3-4, 7am to 11pm, at 1464 Centre Rd. This may impact traffic flow in the surrounding area.

Hamilton Public Library Celebrates Jackie Washington Day
HAMILTON, ON – February 12, 2024 – Hamilton Public Library celebrates Black History Month and the life and legacy of Hamilton jazz legend Jackie Washington with a Noon Hour Concert by Blues musician Harrison Kennedy and Stewart Memorial Church Choir at Central Library February 16.
Jackie Washington Day at HPL pays tribute to the beloved Hamilton musician and Canada’s first Black disc jockey whose seven-decade performing career enriched the cultural life of the city and the nation. This event is one of many Black History Month programs at HPL.
BLK Owned Youth Market sets up shop at Central Library February 18 and features items created by talented BIPOC young entrepreneurs. Market visitors can also meet TVO host of Ainara’s Bookshelf, Ainara Alleyne and hear live readings by local authors Anita Grant and Ayana Francis. February 24 journalist Morgan Campbell discusses their book My Fighting Family with Finding Edward author Sheila Murray.
Kids are invited to sing, dance and play games with Livi and Friends at Terryberry Branch February 20 and Turner Park Branch February 28.
HPL Staff has curated reading lists for adults, teens, and children highlighting Black authors, artists, achievements, culture and more. Members can also check out the Black History Month films, books and music on Kanopy and Hoopla, accessible with an HPL Library Card.
