City-Wide Outage, Library Service Impacted

The City of Hamilton's cybersecurity-related outage that began Sun Feb 25 continues today, Wed April 24. This outage affects Library services and some programs. Public Wi-Fi is available at most branches with the exception of the Ancaster Branch.

Website log in, self-check kiosks, sorters, public computers, printing, scanning, and Makerspaces are not available. Extended Access is cancelled. We are working with the City to restore these services and stay tuned to continual updates. Thank you for your patience.

Library Services Available

Staff are available by phone: 289-779-7588, chat, and email. Branches are open. Study Halls are available. Check the event listings for program updates. The Catalogue is available to browse, but you cannot log in or place holds at this time. Thank you for your patience.

Make the Switch to Libby from OverDrive

When? 

By April 30, 2023, the OverDrive app is switching to Libby. The OverDrive website is still available at Hamilton Public Library - OverDrive.

How?

Libby In the weeks prior to the discontinuation of OverDrive, users will see a reminder to switch to Libby. With this message, there is a link to a resource page. There are also step-by-step instructions and videos on how to move over to Libby. 

Why?

OverDrive is focusing its efforts solely on the Libby app so it can concentrate on a single platform and have all access to mobile eBooks and audiobooks in one place.  

Libby also comes with new features:

Tags to categorize books however you’d like - you can even sync your OverDrive wish list into a tag.
A central bookshelf for all loans and holds.
Compatibility with Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, and Sonos speakers.
Easy access to OverDrive support staff.

Step-by-Step Instructions To Get Started:

Download the Libby App.
Add your library card number to Libby.
When you do this, all your OverDrive loans and holds will be waiting on your Shelf. Once you’re signed in, you’ll be prompted to sync your OverDrive wish list from an in-app notification.

Libby works with Kobo and Nook eReaders. On Kindle, you may access OverDrive through your browser at https://hpl.overdrive.com.
